Biography
Rank and File, a Texas band of the '80s that is remembered fondly, has consistently credited this drummer with providing the crucial approach responsible for the band's sound really starting to happen. What this meant was a progression for band members such as guitarist, singer and songwriter Alejandro Escovedo from punk rock to country. The group had to move to Austin to meet Jim Slim Evans, who always liked the latter style best even when in the midst of a band as hardcore as Sharon Tate's Baby.

Of course all good drummers should have a lengthy list of credits for band memberships, their phones ringing as often as a bassist or teenage girl. The Chickadiesets and The Inserts were other groups Evans dragged his kit around for in the period prior to Rank and File. Subsequent to this band's loss of rank and messed up files in 1986, the drummer eventually wound up on the Los Angeles music scene. His west coast group involvements have included the hot combo of El Vez--sometimes known as the Memphis Mariachis--and White Line Fever, more of a rockabilly project involving sidekick Neil Mooney. This drummer should not be confused with the

saxophonist Slim Evans who was born in 1902. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
