Biography
Chris Cousin Crispy Bess is a very large man with musical talent to fit his stature. A solid keyboardist, particularly on the Hammond B-3, and every bit as gifted on the electric guitar, Bess first appeared on people's radar when he joined Southern Culture on the Skids for the group's second Geffen Records release, Plastic Seat Sweat, in 1997. When SCOTS stripped down to a trio for largely economic reasons, Bess went on to form the all-instrumental five-piece called Killer Filler, which also included guitarists Bryon Settle and Pete Gamble with Mark Murphy on drums and Rusty Miller on bass. Killer Filler specialized in the vintage 1960s Memphis soul and California surf sounds that Bess was always passionate about, tossing in some twang, funk, lounge, and swing elements as well. Imagine a cross between the Ventures, Booker T. the MG's, and the Meters led by one of the largest men you've ever seen driving an explosive, party-filled stage show and the appeal of Killer Filler becomes obvious. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
