Biography
Fusing acoustic hip-hop, dubstep, pop, and grime with reggae-tinged vocals and thought-provoking sociopolitical lyrics, singer/songwriter, MC, and guitarist Maverick Sabre's eclectic urban sound has drawn comparisons with the likes of Plan B and Finley Quaye. Born Michael Stafford in Hackney, London, in 1990, the talented musician was raised in Ireland, where, inspired by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan and Tupac, he began writing and performing his own songs. After independently releasing his debut single, Sometimes, and opening for the likes of Mercury Music Prize winner Speech Debelle and Mr. Hudson, he landed a deal with Mercury Records. In 2010, he appeared on Professor Green's Top 40 hit Jungle, worked with Chase Status on their second album, No More Idols, and performed on the MOBO Awards tour before releasing a mixtape entitled The Travelling Man, which also featured fellow hotly tipped newcomer Wretch 32, while his debut album was expected to follow in mid-2011. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
