Biography
Apollo 100 was the short-lived 1970's successor to such 1960's instrumental groups as the Tornados and Sounds Incorporated. Tom Parker, an arranger from Newcastle, recruited the group, whose other members were ex-Tornados drummer Clem Cattini, guitarist Vic Flick (of James Bond Theme fame), guitarist Zed Jenkins, percussionist Jim Lawless, and bassist Brian Odgers. The group made its debut with Joy, a single based on Bach's Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring, on which they were accompanied by an orchestra. The record was a hit in America, rising to the top 10 on the pop singles chart. They followed it up with an LP and a second single, neither of which sold in serious quantities. The group was history by 1973, though the single is still fondly remembered by 70's AM radio listeners. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
