Biography
Toronto native Ian Thornley first found success in the late-90's fronting the Canadian alt-rock band Big Wreck. After releasing a pair of well-regarded albums on Atlantic, the group disbanded in 2002 leaving the door open for their leader's self-titled solo band Thornley. With their heavy post-grunge sound, Thornley were a strong fit for Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger's Universal imprint 604 Records. Their 2004 debut Come Again was an immediate success in Canada, boasting two #1 singles and earning Thornley two Juno nominations. After a second Thornley LP in 2009, Ian rekindled his partnership with former Big Wreck member Brian Doherty, eventually reuniting the band for 2012's Albatross which debuted at #9 on the Canadian Albums chart. The reunion continued a couple of years later with 2014's Ghosts after which Thornley embarked on a proper solo career as an acoustic singer/songwriter. Working with veteran producer Mark Howard (Bob Dylan, Daniel Lanois) in a remote Ontario cottage, he crafted his soulful and introspective debut, Secrets, which he released in 2015 under his birth name Ian Fletcher Thornley. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
