Venezuelan hip-hop foursome Hijos de la Calle made their debut with Pura Crema, released by Polygram in 1997, featuring Toda Mi Gente, their first hit. A year later, the rap act went on tour around South America, getting their music featured in a Chilean compilation called Global Hits, Ecuadorian Métase Al Baile Con Los Mejores del 98, and participating in MTV Lingo with Ladre El Desmadre, recorded along with Control Machete.
