Biography
The Rubaiyats had one single for the Sansu label in 1966. Both sides, Omar Khayyam and Tomorrow, were written by Allen Toussaint and both are New Orleans soul with duo male vocals; Omar Khayyam shows an up-tempo Motown influence and Tomorrow is much sultrier. It has been speculated that the Rubaiyats were Allen Toussaint himself and Willie Harper and the same as the duo of Willie Allen, who also did one single for Sansu in 1966. Both sides of the Rubaiyats' single -- and both sides of Willie Allen's single, as well -- are on the Sundazed compilation Get Low Down!: The Soul of New Orleans '65-'67. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
