Biography
The Lisbon Improvisation Players is an outlet for saxophonist Rodrigo Amado, whose strong belief in improvisation stems from his long history with his instrument. After picking up the instrument in the early 80's, Amado participated in hundreds of improvisational concerts and dozens of recordings that emphasized the merit the free form style was structured around. Formed under the idea that everyone in a group can have a soloist part and play it simultaneously with their fellow musicians, the Lisbon Improvisational Players is an extension of the idea Ornette Coleman presented in his theories and rules. Putting together musicians that are not only from the jazz world, but from the electronic and world music scenes as well, the group maintains an experimental edge that makes their live recordings wondrous explorations of sound that rarely fail to amuse with their complexity. ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi
