The Quintette Plus
Biography
The Quintette Plus, originally known as the Quintette, consisted of five Detroit teenagers--Lily Adams, Michael Turner, Andrew Smith, Marvin Marshall, and Floyd Julian--who were signed to SVR Records in 1965. SVR head Jack Chekaway thought the "Plus" sounded better and was more appropriate, since the band was heavily supported by a cadre of Motown staff musicians.
They were an instrumental band that, in a career consisting of two singles, managed to snag some serious sales for in Florida and the southern United States. Shop Around b/w Grits and Grease and Work Song b/w Summertime all turned up on Collectables' The Cicadelic 60s-Volume 8. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
