Biography
More a song publisher than anything else, Bob Miller did write the occasional song as well, including the patriotic There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere. Born in Memphis and reared in that city's melting pot of blues, jazz, and country, Miller found his way to New York after years as a pianist and arranger, becoming part of Irving Berlin's publishing company in 1928. Soon after, he formed his own publishing company and became a force on Tin Pan Alley until he was offered a job with the ARC label, where he began writing compositions for hillbilly artists such as Vernon Dalhart. After World War II, Miller phased himself out of the business as an active participant and tended to his copyrights. ~ Steve Kurutz, Rovi
