Biography
Originally from Newfoundland, tenor saxophonist John Nugent burnished his jazz skills during the early to mid-'80s at Sir Francis Xavier University, the Banff School of Fine Arts, and North Texas State University. He soon racked up years of touring experience with the One O'Clock Lab Band and Woody Herman, in addition to performing with everyone Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme to Bob Hope and the Temptations. As a solo artist, Nugent has been keeping company with top-notch jazz musicians like Bruce Barth, Doug Weiss, David Liebman, and Billy Hart. In 1994 he founded his own record label/management company, NY Jam. The label released West of Flatbush in 1998 and Rhythmicity in 2000. Nugent's efforts on other labels include 1996's self-titled John Nugent and 1999's Taurus People. ~ David R. Adler, Rovi
