Irons -- who was named after the famed city of Troy in Turkey -- grew up in a musical household in Nevada. Born to Eddie Irons, drummer for the funk-rock band Brick, and singer/songwriter Anne G., Irons learned how to sing from her mother, and the family even recorded an a cappella Christmas album. When she was 12, Irons and her family moved to Southern California so she could attend an early college program at Cal State. During this time she immersed herself in the work of the Beatles and alt-rock and indie artists including Evanescence, Green Day, System of a Down, and Sufjan Stevens. With her twin sister, she formed the duo Axiz, which scored a 2008 deal with RCA and recorded an album that the label did not release.
By the time she was 18, Irons had earned a B.A. in psychology and was working as a solo artist. In 2014, she appeared on Australian DJ Will Sparks' "When the Lights Go Out" and worked with the Finnish duo Tom Hills on the following year's "Lighters." She also collaborated with Lupe Fiasco, contributing vocals to two songs on his 2015 album, Tetsuo Youth. After signing to Def Jam, Irons released her 2016 EP, Turbulence, a blend of powerful vocals and rock heft. Looking for more creative freedom, she left Def Jam and released 2018's Antihero EP, which she produced herself. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
