Lead singer of punk-injected indie rockers Muncie Girls, Lande Hekt's more intimate solo material delivers hooks with softer edges. Following two albums with her band, she made her full-length solo debut with 2021's Going to Hell.

Hekt co-founded Muncie Girls in 2010 with guitarist Dean McMullen and drummer Sam De Wolf, at the time all teenaged members of the D.I.Y. punk scene in their hometown of Exeter, U.K. The band's first release came at the end of 2011 in the shape of a three-track self-titled cassette on What We Should Be Doing! Luke Ellis replaced De Wolf on drums before Muncie Girls recorded their second EP, 2012's Revolution Summer. Issued on Exeter-based punk label Specialist Subject, the EP helped lift the band's profile with regular airplay on BBC Radio 1. Continuous touring throughout the U.K. and Europe limited the group's recording output, thought they released the Sleepless EP in 2013, and a split EP with Great Cynics appeared early in 2014. The following year brought another split release, this time with German punk outfit Sandlotkids. With Hekt dividing her time between various bands and starting School of Frock -- a musical workshop encouraging girls to start bands and play instruments -- the group finally returned to the studio at the beginning of 2015 to record what would become their debut album.

Released in March 2016, the more politically slanted From Caplan to Belsize was issued in the U.K. by Specialist Subject. Its title drawn from Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, From Caplan to Belsize earned positive reviews, with venerable U.K. hard rock journal Kerrang! giving it a rare five out of five rating. Muncie Girls' audience began to expand outside of England as their album was released in Europe and the United States, and in 2018, they followed up with the Lewis Johns-produced Fixed Ideals. Another Plath reference, its title came from a line in the sonnet "To Eva."

The singer next headed to the studio with Ben David, who recorded and mixed her first solo material. The resulting EP, Gigantic Disappointment, saw release in late 2019. Partly inspired by coming out as gay, her full-length debut, the David-produced Going to Hell, followed in January 2021 on Get Better Records.
