Henry Lee Owens, known most commonly as Riddlore -- among numerous variations and allternate aliases -- is a veteran producer and free-spirited rapper who has been a vital part of Los Angeles' underground hip-hop community since the '90s. He was an early host of L.A.'s open-mike workshop Project Blowed and appeared as Rhymin Riddler, both solo and as a member of C.V.E. (Chillin Villain Empire), on its first spin-off compilation in 1995. Shortly thereafter, he started issuing low-key solo projects as he continued to assist scores of fellow artists, including Aceyalone and Busdriver. He quietly reached a new audience in 2017 with the beat tape Afromutations. Recorded two years earlier in Kampala and released on Nyege Nyege Tapes, a label based in the Ugandan capital, the tracks combined African field recordings with bass music. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
