Biography
Trio Iraquitã had its peak in the '50s, specializing in the bolero repertory with a heavy mariachi influence, and became internationally famous before it was popular in Brazil. The trio formed in Natal (Rio Grande do Norte) by Edinho (violão, or guitar), Paulo Gilvan (afoxê), and João Costa Neto (tantã) and became professional in 1950 in Recife's Rádio Clube. After a tour through the north of Brazil, the trio followed, in 1951, for the Guyana, also performing in other countries of the Caribbean and South America, in the next year. In 1953 toured Central America and stayed in Mexico for a year, where performed intensively in the TV and nightclubs. In that country the trio participated in the film #Llévame En Tus Brazos. In 1954 they returned to Brazil, settling in Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro), where they worked at the Rádio Nacional, recorded other albums (their discography sums up to 50 albums), continued to perform, and participated in 15 films, both singing and/or acting. After Edinho's demise in 1965, he was replaced by Toni. The trio was dissolved in 1970, but they teamed up again in 1991. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
