Matthew Lucas was born and raised in Michigan. His father played trumpet for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and he learned to play trumpet and guitar before becoming interested in electronic music when he was in high school. He began producing tracks in several styles before focusing on dubstep, and he studied at Western Michigan University, with the intention of becoming an engineer for horror films. He released his first EP, Revenge, in 2017, and moved to Los Angeles to focus on his music career. After Bassnectar began playing Revenge track "Wobbly" during his festival sets, interest in Peekaboo's music quickly accelerated, and the two recorded the track "Disrupt the System" (featuring Azeem). Liquid Stranger's Wakaan label released Peekaboo's 2018 EPs Imposters and Maniac, as well as "Babatunde," a collaboration with G-Rex, which gained support from several EDM DJs and publications.
In addition to successful tours with Ganja White Night and Rezz throughout the United States, Peekaboo sold out numerous dates as a headliner. His first EP for Zeds Dead's Deadbeats imprint, Wrecking Ball, appeared in March of 2019, and debuted at number ten on Billboard's Dance/Electronic chart. Impossible appeared at the end of the year and was even more successful, reaching number four on the same chart. Peekaboo's first two EPs for Wakaan were released as a limited LP in early 2020. "Powermove," produced with ISOxo, appeared in March. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
