Biography
Led by ex-Teenage Fanclub/Soup Dragons drummer Paul Quinn, Scottish melodic rockers the Primary 5 make '60s and '70s-influenced melodic rock not dissimilar to the drummer's former employers. In 2001, after recording four albums with the Fanclub, Quinn decided to leave the band and begin work on his first ever set of original songs. Collaborating with local Glaswegian musician Ryan Currie at ex-Oasis bassist Paul Guiggs McGuigan's studio, Quinn sang and played many of the instruments on the band's debut album, North Pole. He then released the album on his own Bellbeatmusic label in 2004. Go followed on Re-Action Records in 2007. Later that year, Quinn and Currie amicably parted ways. Subsequently, Quinn hooked up with Green Peppers guitarist Jim McCulloch and began work on new material. Recorded at former Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins' Leeders Farm Studios with producer/engineer Nick Brine, Primary 5's third album, High Five, also featured guest spots from Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake. High Five was released on Neon Tetra Records in 2008. The digital-download only compilation Revive! - Demos Rarities - 2001-2008 appeared in 2010. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
