Hannah Bussiere was born in Toronto, and was classically trained. She studied violin at McGill University in Montreal, but dropped out in order to play rock music. Feeling a connection to nature and particularly the moon, she took the stage name Luna Li, and made her debut with the 2017 EP Opal Angel, a mixture of dream pop and garage rock. She performed solo, often playing just a guitar, violin, and looping devices, and released additional singles like "Silver into Rain" and "Trying." In 2020, after the initial COVID-19 lockdown forced musicians to halt live performances, Li began uploading minute-long videos of her recording music in her bedroom, playing harp, violin, keyboards, and guitar. Falling somewhere between lo-fi hip-hop, city pop, and psychedelia, the clips gained Li an online following, and she performed to millions of viewers as part of 88Rising's ASIA RISING FOREVER live stream before releasing the Jams EP in 2021. Li appeared on Moby's Reprise and Dizzy's Separate Places, toured with Japanese Breakfast, and released the singles "Cherry Pit," "Alone But Not Lonely," and "Flower (In Full Bloom)." Her debut album, Duality, appeared on In Real Life in 2022, featuring collaborations with Jay Som, Dreamer Isioma, and Beabadoobee. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
