Biography
Resurrecting the jagged song structures and abrasive assault of vintage punk acts such as Gang of Four and Mission of Burma, the Nervous Return (originally named Twig) was a reminder of a vibrant time in the underground when they debuted in 2000. Led by vocalist/guitarist Jason Muller, the band also featured drummer Greg Gordon, bassist Anthony Crouse, and guitarist Rob Grad. As Twig, the band recorded an eponymous EP that was distributed at their concerts, soon gaining the attention of independent labels. Offered to release their full-length debut on MooTron Records, they recorded Headshots and let the label release the short and efficient record in the spring of 2002. Filled with short and quirky songs, the band became one of the more prominent post-punk revivalists in the Los Angeles scene. With this new notoriety came a name change, and by that summer they had renamed themselves the Nervous Return. Hooking up next with LaSalle Records (owned by blink-182's Travis Barker), the guys issued Wake Up Dead in September 2004. The album featured guitarist Shane Gallagher on board in place of Grad. ~ Bradley Torreano, Rovi
