Biography
Tavinho Moura is an urban middle-class musician who, taken by the magic of the "caipira" (hillbilly) culture, dedicated himself to that music. In his case, along with research and adaptations of folklore, like in Cálix Bento and Peixinhos do Mar, the latter with Fernando Brant (both recorded by Milton Nascimento), that also meant the systematic study of the performance of the viola, having become an accomplished solo instrumentalist, as evidenced in Caboclo D'Água and Diadorado. As a composer, along with his own discography, his songs have been recorded by the Orquestra de Viola Caipira (in Modas e Violas do Vale do Paraíba and O Rio da Minha Terra), Renato Teixeira, Boca Livre, Sérgio Reis, Beto Guedes, Pena Branca e Xavantinho, Almir Sater, Simone, Zizi Possi, and 14 Bis. Participating in music festivals in Minas Gerais, he came to meet composers of the Clube da Esquina like Milton Nascimento, Beto Guedes, Lô Borges, and Toninho Horta. Moura had his first LP released in 1978, Como Vai Minha Aldeia. He is also an awarded composer of soundtracks for cinema and TV. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
