Biography
One of the United Kingdom's great folk-rock percussionists, Michael Gregory is associated with the Albion Band, an often as much as 12-piece ensemble that developed out of a backing group for productions at London's National Theatre. Gregory has also performed and recorded with the side projects of fellow bandmembers such as Ashley Hutchings as well as other groups with similar musical aesthetics, including the famed Fairport Convention as well as obscure '70s acts such as Big John's Rock'n'Roll Circus.

An interesting aspect of Gregory's musical development has been the extent to which the Albion Band's musical direction was altered by the nature of theater productions the group was involved in. Folk-rock fans, for example, might be taken aback by the louder, certainly harder-rocking accompaniment the group created for +Dispatches, a 1980 play about the war in Vietnam. In 1983, the drummer became part of Home Service, a slightly smaller ensemble that spun out of the Albion Band. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
