Biography
Wahoo, musical brainchild of German producers/DJs Georg Levin and Steffen Dixon Berkhahn began as the imprint the pair used for joint remixes. That is, before the tracks released under that name became popular enough that the project took on a life of its own. Georg Levin began writing songs in childhood, moving on to play keyboards and sax with various bands throughout his adolescence. After studying communications abroad, Levin worked various TV and film jobs before meeting Jazzanova's Alexander Barck, who inspired his return to music, this time as a fulltime profession. Similarly, Dixon was friends with Kristian Beyer (Ame), Barck and other members of the Berlin based Jazzanova collective. With help from his more established friends, Dixon was instrumental in putting together the Sonar Kollektiv label, offering the DJs a platform to work, both as a unit and independently. While each released material independently (Levin's solo debut Can't Hold Back released 2003 and Dixon's Holding You in 2005), the pair remixed music by artists such as Victor Davies and Brooks, publishing their tracks under the name Wahoo. The duo's debut release Take Over Me/Make 'Em Shake It hit clubs in 2004. The record was re-released a short time later by British powerhouse label Defected Records, featuring remixes by house music heavyweights like Kings of Tomorrow and Isolée. Wahoo continues to gain popularity throughout the European club scene. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, Rovi
