Biography
Originally formed in the spirit of the rural, old-time zydeco style, over time the Opelousas, Louisiana-based group Zydeco Force began moving towards a funkier, more bass-driven sound reflecting a wide range of influences. Upon debuting in 1988, Zydeco Force comprised bandleader Bobby Mann Robinson, vocalist/accordionist Jeffrey Broussard (the son of Lawtell Playboys frontman Delton Broussard), his brothers Herbert on rub board and Shelton on guitar, and drummer Raymond Thomas. Quickly their propulsive sound caught on with dancehall audiences throughout Louisiana and East Texas, and in 1990 they released their self-titled debut LP, followed a year later by The Sun's Going Down. After issuing 1992's Shaggy Dog Two-Step, Zydeco Force returned in 1994 with The Zydeco Push, with the title track spawning a lambada-like dance craze among fans. It's La-La Time followed in 1995. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
