Biography
Praised by Enrico Caruso in the occasion of his 1917 tour to Buenos Aires, Argentina, after listening to her singing, Zola Amaro had an extremely successful career as a soprano. Her opening was at September 4, 1919, also opening the Official Lyrical Season of that year in the opera +Aida, by Verdi, together with the famous tenor Crimi. In the next day, the feared critic Oscar Guanabarino wrote in his newspaper column that she was not a soprano spinto, but an "absolute soprano." In Carlos Gomes's +Il Guarany, Zola aroused another batch of praises by Guanabarino and other critics. In the Teatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro, Zola had success in the operas +Aida, +Norma, +Gioconda, +Il Guarany, +Cavalleria Rusticana, +Forza del Destino, and others. Abroad, she had great outcomes at the Teatro Solis (Montevideo), Teatro Constanzi (Rome), Coliseo (Buenos Aires), Verdi (Florenza), and in the Scala (Milano). Her long career wasn't over in 1936 and 1937, when she performed the Cavalleria Rusticana and +the Tosca at Rio's Teatro Municipal. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
