Irvin Mayfield & the New Orleans Jazz Playhouse Review
from New Orleans, LA
Biography
Trumpeter Irvin Mayfield is a New Orleans native who grew up playing in brass bands and studying music at the acclaimed New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. Later, he mentored with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis in New York City, and eventually earned his music degree under pianist Ellis Marsalis at the University of New Orleans. Since graduating, he has transformed from simply a firebrand jazz musician into a cultural and creative spokesperson for the city of New Orleans. Along with touring and recording, Mayfield performs regularly at his own club, the New Orleans Jazz Playhouse, located inside the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The New Orleans Jazz Playhouse Revue is a rotating cast of musicians who regularly appear with Mayfield at the Playhouse. Although Mayfield is the star player and leader of the club events, he often showcases any number of top New Orleans musicians at the club throughout the week. Along with his own solo albums, Mayfield has produced works under the New Orleans Jazz Playhouse Revue banner, including 2014's Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse: A New Orleans Creole Christmas and the 2015 book and seven-disc package New Orleans Jazz Playhouse. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
