Biography
The winner of the BBC talent search to find Britain's Best Choir, Only Men Aloud have since gone on to become one of the most successful classical acts in the U.K. Formed by Tim Rhys-Evans, a classically trained singer and former director of the Welsh National Youth Opera, the 20-man, Cardiff-based choir auditioned for the prime-time show in 2008, and after impressive performances of tracks by Robbie Williams, Tom Jones, and Seal, they beat Ysgol Glanaethwy in the final. After signing a five-album deal with Universal Records, they performed with Josh Groban at the Royal Variety Performance and released their self-titled debut LP, which reached number 16 in the U.K. charts. The group embarked on a U.K. tour with guest vocalists Amy Nuttall and Bonnie Tyler before recording their follow-up, Band of Brothers, which reached number 21 and won Best Album of the Year at the Classical Brit Awards. In 2009, they toured the U.S. after signing a deal with CAA, the agency behind David Beckham, and were personally invited to perform at Buckingham Palace by Prince Charles. Their third album, Live from Wales, was released in 2010. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
