Biography
After making a name for himself as the singer of Mexican alt-rock act Elefante, singer and songwriter Reyli Barba left the band in 2003 to pursue a solo career. Barba quickly remade himself as a romantic balladeer and Latin pop artist, a decision vindicated by the widespread commercial success of his solo debut En la luna (2004). The album included the hit singles "Desde que llegaste," "La descarada," and "Sé quién soy," respectively featured in the soundtracks of the film Ladies' Night, the soap opera Rubí, and the Mexican version of Big Brother. Barba kept the momentum going with Fe (2007), Qué vueltas da la vida (2009) and Bien acompañado (2011), while he also became a much sought-after composer or collaborator for other artists and songwriters, including Mijares, Ilse, Ivonne Mimí, Eugenia León, Pandora, Alejandra Guzmán, Claudia Brant, and Francisco Paniagua. Unfortunately, success took its toll and Barba was forced to retire from the spotlight in order to battle addiction problems. After a three-year absence, he returned in April 2019 with four new singles and news of an upcoming album for Sony Music. ~ Mariano Prunes, Rovi
