Drummer Jim Phipps has worked with several rock and roll bands including Every Mother's Nightmare, a combo name that for parents of some generations might have applied to just about every rockband in existence. Every Mother's Nightmare dreamt up a pair of albums for Arista between 1990 and 1994, the drummer co-writing the group's hit single entitled Love Can Make You Blind. Trends in the pop music scene at first helped the group, the MTV video outlet heavily rotating tracks by such hard rock combos, contributing heavily to the previously mentioned song's months of life on the hit charts. Then the video world banished the genre to a broadcast ghetto all its own, resulting in major labels dropping many such groups, some of which survived only with cult followings and new, meaner genre identies including the loveable sleaze rock.

Not to be confused with the pianist of the same name who worked in jazz, doo wop and rhythm and blues between the '30s and '50s, the Nashville-based Phipps has also played in the bands Survivor and The Issues. Every Mother's Nightmare seems to be a difficult band to wake up, however, as in such an occurence causing the actual end to a nightmare. During the group's most restless times only one original member, Rick Ruhl, was carrying on. Phipps was replaced by Kris Beavers during this period, yet Phipps himself eventually decided to rejoin the band. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
