Biography
Wanting to bring back the reminiscent sounds of early 1977 Brit-punk while incorporating reggae and mod influences, Minneapolis, Minnesota brothers Chad (guitar/vocals) and Chris (drums) Anderson created the Strike in 1993. Preaching the word of red politics, organized labor unions, and their love for Vespa scooters, the brothers were soon joined by bassist Kris Adams and second guitarist Micah Garlich-Miller. Gaining a following throughout the midwest as a four-piece, it wasn't long before Chicago-based Johann's Face Records released their first single "Danger"/"Take Action" in 1995. Not only did this single define the Strike's early 1977 Brit-punk and heavy mod influences such as the Jam, it also garnered underground recognition and critical acclaim. After a split single and short east coast tour with the Dillinger Four, 1996 saw the re-release of their debut full-length on Johann's Face titled A Conscience Left to Struggle with Pockets Full of Rust. With a tight, rhythm brigade-like sound and an anthem that cried out for the rights of the struggling working class, the Strike's shout was heard around the world. Relocating to Chicago as a three-piece in 1997 (Micah remained in Minnesota), Chad, Chris, and Kris settled in comfortably in their new location by playing regularly in bars, clubs, and at scooter rallies throughout the Windy City. Victory Records released the Strike's second full-length, Shots Heard 'Round the World, in 1999. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
