Biography
Focusing on the musical roots of the tango, including the milonga, candombe, and habanera, pianist/vocalist Juan Carlos Caceres has crafted a highly emotional style that he claims comes from the "caves of existentialism and jazz with ten years of time shift." A native of Buenos Aires, Caceres has resided in Paris since 1968. Although his first three albums -- Malon in 1972, Gotan in 1979, and Tangofon in 1992 -- were instrumental, he unveiled his singing talents with his album Solo in 1993. Caceres has continued to balance solo work and collaborations with other musicians. Shortly after releasing a solo album, Intimo, in 1996, he recorded a live album, Live, with a trio that featured two percussionists. He performs with a quintet that includes accordion player Didier Ithursarry, percussionists Eddy Tomassi and Javier Estrella, and cellist Sedef Ercetin. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
