Biography
Influenced by vintage soul and R&B but boasting a modern, pop-wise edge in the production and songwriting, the Lovers Key was formed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Moll of See Venus and the Postmarks. In 2010, after the independent success of the Postmarks' 2009 effort Memoirs at the End of the World, the group took a hiatus, and before long Moll became creatively restless. As Moll struggled to write new material, he turned to his love of classic soul and rhythm & blues sounds of the '60s, and started searching for the right vocalist to brings his songs to life. After placing an advertisement looking for singers, Moll heard from Maco Monthervil, a vocalist with a passion for vintage soul who, after being rejected for gigs because his vocal style wasn't always a good fit for modern R&B, was impressed by Moll's list of favorite artists. Monthervil replied, "I love the musical influences you've listed...I'm a singer and even if you're not interested, please just write back." Moll wasted no time getting in touch, and soon the two began writing and recording together, naming their new project the Lovers Key. Here Today Gone Tomorrow, the first album from the Lovers Key, was released in the spring of 2014. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
