Biography
Harlem born and bred, rapper Crystal Caines got her start as a producer. First working with A$AP Ferg, Caines -- who also lists engineering, mixing, and singing on her résumé -- produced "A Hundred Million Roses," her first song with the rapper, and went on to put her mark on "Lord," the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony collaboration on Ferg's 2013 debut, Trap Lord. With a tough and direct delivery, Caines made the move to the mike in 2014 on her debut single, "Whiteline," which featured a verse from Ferg. Continuing their studio chemistry, Caines produced and rapped on a handful of songs on his Ferg Forever mixtape, including the track "Reloaded (Let It Go Pt. 2)" with M.I.A. In late 2015, Caines issued a series of singles on a self-titled digital EP. Showcasing her versatility, the songs varied from gruff ("Play Tough") to experimental ("As I Am"), with polished production and guests like Kris Kasanova, Guylaire, and Lenisha Nelson. When not working on her own songs, she featured on Baauer's "Swoopin," produced tracks for Smoke DZA, and continued her partnership with A$AP Ferg on 2016's collaboration with Skrillex, "Hungry Ham." In 2017, Caines released "No Drama," "Run with Me," and "Fuckery" (again, with Ferg) in the lead-up to her Vertigo EP. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
