House-rocking garage trio Danny the Darleans materialized in early 2010, one of a long line of bands started by Danny Kroha, founding member of Detroit garage punk legends the Gories. Following the demise of the Gories, Kroha was at the center of bands like Demolition Doll Rods and the Readies, but also spent a lot of time performing solo, playing in a stripped-down folk-blues style. Sometime during this stripped-down phase, drummer Richie Wohlfeil approached Kroha, casually suggesting a jam session or the possibility of he and bassist Colleen Burke backing Danny up at one of his solo gigs. A few low-key blues gigs gave way to the trio eventually solidifying as a legitimate entity unto themselves, incorporating heavier sounds into their repertoire, as well as adding covers of R&B acts like Little Junior Parker and Nathaniel Mayer to their set list. Burke's smooth, walking basslines and Wohlfeil's minimal but powerful drum kit provided a perfect match for Kroha's frenetic punk-blues guitar mastery and one-of-a-kind frontman presence. They recorded a track for the Nolan Strong tribute compilation Daddy Rockin' Strong, crediting themselves first as Danny the Del Torros. Shortly after, they changed the name when they stumbled upon a promotional door-hanging card for defunct business Darlean's Beauty Salon. With a suitable moniker, the group began playing out in the Detroit area, cultivating a party-starting sound with a string of covers and some originals that sounded as timeless as the covers. They slowly released their tunes in the form of a two-song 7" in 2012 and a self-titled LP in late 2013.
