Biography
The Dee Gees are an alias Foo Fighters adopted in 2021 as they embarked on a Bee Gees covers project. The venture was born through fortuitous timing as much as it was love. While promoting their tenth album, Medicine at Midnight, in February 2021, Foo Fighters played a version of the Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing" on BBC Radio 2. The choice was inspired by the existence of the documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, a film Dave Grohl admitted he had not seen by the time he had the idea to record "You Should Be Dancing" and four other Gibb brothers songs with Greg Kurstin, who also produced Medicine at Midnight. The resulting Hail Satin consisted of five covers of the brothers Gibb and five Medicine at Midnight songs recorded live in the studio. Hail Satin was released on July 27, 2021, as part of that year's Record Store Day celebrations. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
