Biography
The Restoration Worship Center Choir from Rocky Mount, North Carolina is a modern gospel choir founded, fronted, and directed by International Gospel Music Hall of Fame member, Rev. Luther Barnes, and his brother Pastor Melvin Barnes. Luther was the frontman for the hitmaking Sunset Jubilaires quartet, and founder/director of the award-winning Red Budd Gospel Choir. In creating the RWCC, Pastor Barnes recruited some of the latter group's singers and musicians and designed an approach that wed the sound of the gospel quartet to that of the gospel choir.
It took two years for him to audition, assemble, and fully rehearse this group by performing Sunday after Sunday and at regional festivals and churches. They released their debut album, The Favor of God, in 2016 on Shanachie Records. Its advanced harmonies, wide rhythmic palette, sparkling production, and sweeping original songs propelled the album to number eight on the Top Albums chart, and its single "God's Grace," to number eight on the Hot Gospel Songs chart the following year, where it remained for 17 weeks. After a period of songwriting and intense rehearsal, Barnes brought his RWCC back into the studio to record Look to the Hills. The full-length was released at the end of May in 2020. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
