Biography
First coming to fame as the star of the Nickelodeon sitcom Zoey 101 in the mid-2000s, Jamie Lynn Spears alternated her acting roles with music. Initially, she positioned herself as a country singer -- it helped distinguish her from her famous older sister Britney -- but after her 2014 debut EP The Journey, Spears gravitated toward pop music, a transition evident in her 2016 single "Sleepover" and "Follow Me," a 2020 duet with Chantel Jeffries that revived the theme to Zoey 101.

Jamie Lynn Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi on April 4, 1991. While her older sister was scoring a record deal and becoming a major star in the late '90s, Spears was attending a private Christian school, where she was a cheerleader and played on the basketball team. That would change in 2002. When Jamie Lynn was 11, she made her professional acting debut in the movie Crossroads, playing a younger version of her sister Britney's character, Lucy Wagner. Spears showed a knack for acting and became a regular on the children's TV comedy series All That. Nickelodeon, the cable network that aired All That, was impressed enough with her to give her the lead role in her own series, Zoey 101, in which she played Zoey Brooks, one of the first female students at an all-boys private school. Debuting in early 2005, with Spears singing the theme song, Zoey 101 was a success in the ratings, and ran for four seasons and 65 episodes.

In December 2007, shortly after Spears finished taping the final episodes of Zoey 101, she made a startling announcement: The 16-year-old was pregnant and her boyfriend of two years, 18-year-old Casey Aldridge, was the father. She gave birth to a daughter in June 2008. The on-and-off relationship between Spears and Aldridge finally came to an end in 2010, and she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, with an eye toward becoming a country music artist. In November 2013, Spears released her first digital single, a tune she co-wrote with Rivers Rutherford called "How Could I Want More." The song revealed a sound and style that were mature beyond Spears' 22 years, and it rose to 29 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart. Spears made a guest appearance on Britney's 2013 album Britney Jean, duetting with her sister on "Chillin' with You." In May 2014, Jamie Lynn released her debut EP The Journey; it peaked at 24 on Billboard's Country charts and five on its Heatseekers chart. Spears had success as a songwriter in 2015 when Jana Kramer took Jamie Lynn's "I Got the Boy" to number six on Billboard's Country Airplay chart.

Spears followed The Journey with "Sleepover," a pop music makeover, in 2016. After a couple of quiet years, she reemerged in 2020 with a regular role in the Netflix show Sweet Magnolias and a duet with Chantel Jeffries, "Follow Me." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
