Biography
Manchester native Adio Marchant, aka Bipolar Sunshine, combines elements of pop, R&B, and dance to create his own unique sound. True to his moniker, his music balances conflicting emotions and moods yet ultimately finds hope and positivity through all of it. On his own, he's presented his distinctive brand of alternative R&B on EPs like 2018's Imaginarium and singles such as 2021's "Answers." However, he's received greater exposure through his numerous guest appearances, particularly DJ Snake's 2015 single "Middle," which was certified gold or platinum in eight countries. Other frequent collaborators include Baauer, Illenium, Whethan, and San Holo.

Before launching his solo career in 2013, Marchant was lead vocalist for six-piece ska band Kid British. He found the approach of multiple songwriters too constricting, so upon their dissolution in 2012, he decided to strike out as a solo artist. With the help of producer Jazz Purple, Marchant began to construct a sound and image that aimed to be thought-provoking and musically diverse. His vision of alternative pop gained him many fans early on, with artists such as A$AP Rocky and London Grammar eager to endorse his music. In June 2013, Marchant released his debut EP, Aesthetics, which he quickly followed with the Drowning Butterflies EP in November. Throughout his early career, Marchant would self-release his music, but in 2014, he signed to Polydor. Marchant appeared as guest vocalist on numerous dance productions, including Lane 8's "I Got What You Need" and DJ Snake's "Middle," the latter of which saw release in late 2015 and became a major worldwide hit.

"Whole Heart," a collaboration with Gryffin, appeared in 2016. The following year, Marchant delivered several songs, including the emotive single "Are You Happy" and a cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist." Bipolar Sunshine's third EP, Imaginarium, arrived in 2018, and the artist additionally collaborated with Rabbithole on The Visionary Tape and guested on San Holo's single "Brighter Days." 2019 brought collaborations with the Avener, Illenium, and Niko the Kid as well as a co-writing credit on "Brown Skin Girl," Beyoncé's collaboration with Wizkid and SAINt JHN from the soundtrack to The Lion King: The Gift. Bipolar Sunshine appeared on Baauer's 2020 album Planet's Mad and released "Ex Wifi" with Chloe Angelides. In 2021, the artist appeared on several San Holo songs in addition to Surf Mesa's "Lose My Mind," and he released the solo singles "Gone" and "Answers." ~ Liam Martin & Paul Simpson, Rovi
