Biography
Wayne Shorter's trumpet playing older brother had neither the talent nor the success of his legendary sibling. Alan Shorter was a somewhat limited trumpeter player whose work could nevertheless be affecting. More than Wayne, Alan traveled in free jazz circles. He played on Archie Shepp's classic Four for Trane (Impulse! , 1965), as well as Wayne's The All Seeing Eye (Blue Note, 1965), and a few lesser-known sessions in the '60s before fading from view. Both albums Alan made as a leader are out-of-print; one, however -- Orgasm (Verve, 1968) -- was reissued in the late '90s in a limited edition. ~ Chris Kelsey, Rovi
