Lavender Grove grew out of the mod-psychedelic band the Game, who did a few decent Who-ish tracks on obscure British singles that have been reissued on numerous U.K. "freakbeat" compilations. Two unreleased tracks that Lavender Grove recorded in 1968, Lavender Grove and When I Was Young (both written by Game founder Terry Spencer), appeared on the 1995 Game CD compilation It's Shocking What They Call Us.
