Masher's hybrid of surf and complex pop-punk resulted from their combined influences of Devo, the Pixies, Shadowy Men From a Shadowy Planet, and the Minutemen. Consisting of vocalist/guitarist Adam Brisben (formerly of W.A.C.O.), drummer Nick Scott (formerly of Popdefect) and bassist Leslie Denny (formerly of the Neptunas), the trio first established the moniker of Masher upon their 1996 debut.
