Biography
A reggae-gospel singer, songwriter, and producer with a distinctive dancehall style, Sherwin Gardner made his debut at a young age, performing around the Caribbean as a teenager and recording his debut album, 1998's Power in the Name, at just 17. A native of Arima, Trinidad, Gardner issued three more regional albums before finding chart success and breaking into the international mainstream with 2002's Leaning. Launching his own Flow Masters record label the following year, he followed up with 2003's Closer and landed a number one Caribbean radio hit with "He Died for Me," earning numerous critical accolades in Trinidad and beyond. Over the coming decade, Gardner balanced his career as a recording artist and worship leader with production work on albums by artists like Jonathan Nelson, Carlene Davis, Chevelle Franklyn, Pierre Sisters, and Monty G. As a performer, he has shared the stage with high-profile gospel artists like BeBe and CeCe Winans, Lecrae, Israel Houghton, Fred Hammond, and Yolanda Adams. Moving into the 2010s, Gardner continued to record prolifically, pushing traditional gospel boundaries on releases like Nascent (2012), Veinticinco (2014), and Fixer (2015) which mix high-energy electronic pop, reggae, dancehall, and R&B. He returned in 2017 with the live album Greater. ~ Timothy Monger, Rovi
