Sight Sound was a Birmingham, England band led by guitarist/arranger Grant Kearney. The group originally called themselves "the Sombreros," and their sound was rooted in the harmony-based rock & roll of the Beach Boys and the Four Seasons. But a name change to Sight Sound in 1966 seemed to herald other alterations in the band and their sound -- after 1966, they evolved into much more of a psychedelic pop outfit, in keeping with the times. Rick Price's joining that year also caused Kearney to switch to bass, while Price handled the guitar chores, in addition to adding his voice to their harmony sound. Additionally, he and guitarist/singer Mike Sheridan began writing during this period, and they provided Sight Sound with their three release singles,Ebenezer, Little Jackie Monday, and Alley Alley. The group's lack of success as a recording act, coupled with their inability to break through even in Germany, eventually pushed their work into more of a comedic direction, especially after Sheridan joined them. Musical impressions and not always too subtle satire were the focus of their act from 1968 onward. Price was eventually snapped up by the Move, and one of the group's later members, from 1971 through 1974, was bassist Kelly Groucutt, who made the jump to the Electric Light Orchestra in 1974 and never looked back.
