Biography
Although relatively new, the NFM Choir is one of Poland's leading choral ensembles. The group performs music of all periods but has shown a special commitment to contemporary music, Polish and otherwise.

The NFM Choir (Polish: Chór NFM) was formed in 2006 by conductor Andrzej Kosendiak as an adjunct group of the Wroclaw Philharmonic, which later took up residence at the new National Forum of Music (Narodowe Forum Muzyki) or NFM Building and was renamed the NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic. The choir has continued to perform with the orchestra but also appears independently, both with other instrumental ensembles and a cappella. From 2006 until 2021, the choir's conductor was Agnieszka Franków-Zelazny; she was succeeded by Lionel Sow but has remained active with the group. The choir quickly became one of Poland's most prominent ensembles and began to attract foreign as well as domestic guest conductors, including Stephen Layton, Iván Fischer, and Giovanni Antonini. The NFM Choir released its debut recording, featuring a performance of the Credo of Krzysztof Penderecki with the Warsaw Philharmonic on the Naxos label in 2010.

The NFM Choir has performed well beyond Poland at some of Europe's most prestigious venues, including the Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and the Philharmonie de Paris, collaborating with such groups as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Gabrieli Consort Players, and Il Giardino Armonico. The choir has appeared at such festivals as the BBC Proms, International Ankara Music Festival, and Gent Festival van Vlaanderen. The repertory of the NFM Choir includes music of various eras, but the choir has performed contemporary works especially often. It has given premieres of works by Penderecki, Roxanna Panufnik, and Bob Chilcott, among others; Chilcott was featured on the 2012 release The Seeds of Stars on the Signum Classics label. The choir recorded several albums on its own NFM label and then returned on Signum Classics in 2023 under Franków-Zelazny with the album Bob Chilcott: Canticles of Light. ~ James Manheim, Rovi
