Violet Santangelo was the female half of the male-female folk-rock-pop duo Lyme Cybelle, formed by her and Warren Zevon in 1965 in Los Angeles. Santangelo sang with Zevon on two 1966 Lyme Cybelle singles, three of whose four tracks she also wrote with him. The first of those singles, the raga-rock-tinged Follow Me, made #65, but Zevon left the act after the follow-up, a cover of Bob Dylan's If You Gotta Go, Go Now, flopped. Lyme Cybelle continued with Wayne Erwin taking Zevon's place, and Erwin and Santangelo sang on the 1966 Lyme Cybelle single Song 7/Write If You Get Work, produced by Curt Boettcher. This version of Lyme Cybelle expanded to a full band before Santangelo was fired by Erwin. All six songs from the Lyme Cybelle singles (including the ones sung by Santangelo and Erwin), as well as several Lyme Cybelle demos (all with Zevon) and early Zevon demos, appear on the Warren Zevon The First Sessions compilation.
