Biography
The Tokyo electronic-pop duo Boom Boom Satellites paired singer/guitarist Michiyuki Kawashima and bassist/DJ Masayuki Nakano, fellow university students who first teamed in 1990. Taking their name from a song by Sigue Sigue Sputnik, they earned wide acclaim for their 1995 debut single Dub Me Crazy, a highlight of noted DJ Fumiya Tanaka's Abstract Set One compilation; signing with the Belgian label RS, in 1997 Boom Boom Satellites returned with 4 a Moment of Silence, followed later that year by the EP Joyride. They went on to perform at festivals such as the Glastonbury and Fuji Rock. Their full-length debut Out Loud appeared in 1999. The following year's releases included their single Fogbound, which was used in the Ridge Racer 5 video game. During 2000, Boom Boom Satellites also worked on recording their second full-length. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
