Biography
Jazz saxophonist and composer Howie Smith has performed all over the world, with musicians ranging from Louie Bellson to Aretha Franklin to Luciano Berio, and recorded with musicians such as Frank Mantooth and Australia's Jazz Co/op. As a composer, Smith has written works for a variety of settings, from big band to wind ensemble, to mixed media, and recordings of his compositions have appeared on labels including Polydor, Albany, and Sea Breeze. In addition to leading workshops in several continents, Smith has served as coordinator of Cleveland State University's jazz studies since 1979.
