Biography
This vocalist was active in the '50s and '60s, and is best known for his involvement with funky organist Bill Doggett. Since Doggett's hits were instrumental, and Brown was a vocalist, there would be plenty of reason to suspect that this arrangement was not the career opportunity of a lifetime. The evidence left behind supports such suspicions, for example the vocal version of Honky Tonk has been known to provoke listeners into muttering about liking the instrumental better. Brown also sang with the Stan Kenton band in the early '50s, and can be heard at least one collection of airshots that has been issued. Yes, this was another outfit in which instrumental music took priority over vocals. At least Kenton did have some well known singers--Brown not among them--and that is more than can be said for Doggett. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
