Biography
Singer, songwriter, and musician Louis Schefano grew up in Birmingham, AL. He appeared on the self-titled debut album by Remy Zero in 1996, then spent some time with Verbena before moving on to Little Red Rocket, serving as drummer in the band led by Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor, and contributing not only drums, but also guitar, piano, and background and harmony vocals to the group's debut album, Who Did You Pay (1997); he also had writing credits on four songs on the disc. He drummed on the second album, It's in the Sound (2000), even though the original lineup had split by that time. (Maria Taylor later recorded songs of his on her albums 11:11 and Lynn Teeter Flower.) After leaving Little Red Rocket, he launched his own project, Regia, which recorded the album The Art of Navigation (1999), for which he wrote all 12 songs and served as singer, drummer, guitarist, keyboard player, producer, mixer, and photographer. (The Minders later covered Same Time, Same Place from the collection on their It's a Bright Guilty World album.) After relocating to Brooklyn, NY, Schefano recorded an EP, Freak Show Revenge, using the name Louis. After gaining attention as a self-released demo, the disc was reconfigured for release by Superphonic Records on March 6, 2007. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
