Biography
A rock neophyte could be forgiven for thinking the '70s band Ace was part of the cast of a television comedy show. Phil Harris and Alan King represented the twin guitar lineup in the group, but neither musician should be confused with the highly mainstream entertainers of the same name, the former a sidekick on #The Jack Benny Show as well as the voice of amusing cartoon characters. The best-known voice in Ace was actually singer and keyboardist Paul Carrack, who also brought along bassist sidekick Tex Comer -- whose name certainly has possibilities in mainstream pornography, perhaps a #Boogie Nights sequel.

Both guitarists sang, their appealing blend of voices well within the guidelines set for such an important aspect of the British rock scene by certain standard-bearer combos, one of them named after a common insect. Harris stayed with the group for approximately four years, Ace averaging an album every two years. Time for Another, the final side featuring this guitarist, is one of the rare hard rock album titles that could be interpreted as a comment on future band membership. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, Rovi
