Biography
A German composer whose fellow students included Georg Foster and Caspar Othmayr. (They learned under the tutelage of Lorenz Lemlin.) Foster was to praise the work of Brandt later in their lives and went so far as to dedicate the third volume of his own collection to Brandt. Brandt's life in composition can be divided into two phases: secular and sacred. Early in his career he published primarily secular music. The second corpus were sacred pieces which were only published after he died. His "Geistliche Psalmen" were probably composed after his confession of faith in the Lutheran tradition (1545?) some of which are lost. The number of parts in the various Psalms range from four to nine. The last in the collection is scored for nine parts and written for choirs singing in different parts of a building. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
